The goal of this project was to redesign a book jacket for an already existing novel. The Scarlet Letter explores themes of guilt, shame and isolation. The leading character Hester Prynne is publicly shamed in her community as a result of her actions. I used the cut out dresses to represent members of the community and kept one red for Hester Prynne. The chains in place of buttons represent her feelings of being trapped in a situation.

Process
I used a mix of traditional and digital mediums. The dress was hand drawn with black ink on paper. I made the chains in Illustrator. And I edited the chains in Photoshop on the dress.
The Fault in Our Stars is about a teen who is terminally ill and trying desperately to live a normal life. The overall mood is dramatic and thought provoking about how life is fragile. The hand drawn flowers are representing the chaos of being alive. The dying flower is different than the rest and is a metaphor for her feeling isolated from her peers.

Process
For this project, the living flowers are hand drawn with colored pencil. The dead flower is a dried flower and scanned into Photoshop to make it black and white.
